There is a captivating background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not legal. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are apparently required to pass, there are means around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, highlights 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that highlights many luxuries aside from the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
